This weekend started out great. We did nothing on Friday night...just sat around and watched season three of The Office...so funny! Then on Saturday Scotty hung up the Christmas lights before the weather turns cruddy. When he came in and tried to turn on football while we ate lunch we found that only about half of the power in our house worked. You could have the lights on but not at the same time as the TV. The oven would turn on but would not get hot. The dryer would spin but also wouldn't heat up. So, thinking something was wrong with the circuit breaker, he spent the entire day testing different circuits and turning the power on and off to different parts of the house. By the time we went out to dinner that night with the Jewkes to Market Street, the power still was not fixed. Scott had to get dressed in the dark and had to change his pants twice because he just couldn't tell which pants he was picking. Anyway, when we woke up Sunday morning, the house was still dark except for a few select things like the fridge and the furnace. After tons of testing and checking, Scott finally decided that it wasn't our problem, it was the power company's problem. So we called them and I was really impressed by how quickly they came to fix it. It turns out that the 240 cable to our house was corroded and finally snapped. So they just spliced a new piece in and it was good as new. However, we still didn't have the use of the oven or stove for most of the day. So luckily, Jewkes invited us over to have a late lunch and then watch Transformers (great movie!)
It was still a good weekend, just with some added excitment and darkness. I'm just glad our house is up and running again today. It's always a grim reminder when the lights go out to see just how much we rely on all of our appliances and hi-tech gadgets. I was so glad when I could turn on the TV again...oh how I missed it!
