Catch up

Well, this summer was a busy one for us and I wanted to include some of that stuff on my blog because, honestly, it is rare for exciting stuff to happen, so I have to use it when it does.

Our summer started out with a trip to Hawaii to see Ashley, my sister-in-law, get married. It was an amazing trip with horseback riding, snuba diving, hiking, and, of course, the wedding, which was one of the most beautiful weddings I've ever seen. Ashley was gorgeous! and the wedding with the ocean in the background surrounded by flowers was awesome! The party afterwards was also fun, especially when Dennis' pants decided to fall down.

Then, three weeks after Hawaii, I was camp director for our ward's Girls' Camp. We went up to Rockport Reservoir and had fun playing in the water, going on a hike, and making prom dresses out of garbage bags. The girls were so creative and very talented, even when working with garbage bags and duct tape.

Dennis and Scott were awesome and came up and cooked the whole time at camp. They made delicious food, and it was nice to have them around. I was so impressed at how talented they are with a dutch oven, and it is nice to know that I have the best father-in-law and husband in the whole world.

When we got back from Girls' Camp I took Taya for a walk one morning, and she was acting really old (she is now over 8 years old). So I went home and told Scott that I needed a new dog to walk with, and the surprising thing was that he was totally excited about that idea! He sent me e-mails all day about dogs he found on the internet. I found Jake on the Humane Society web site and sent it to him. He e-mailed back, "Meet me there in 20 minutes," and we went and picked him up. He is a classic example of how Scott and I always do things on the spur of the moment, but it totally works for us. Jake is the best dog. He is so sweet and smart, and he is so nice to Beck, unlike Taya who will try to bite Beck every chance she gets.

Three weeks after we got Jake, we went on a cruise to Alaska. My mom decided she want to take the entire family. It was so much fun to be able to hang out with the whole family. I especially enjoyed hanging out with Colby and Ellie, my niece and nephew, who are so funny and are growing up so quickly. They are cool kids. But we had fun shopping, hiking, kayaking, going to a lumberjack show, and of course, eating! The food was unbelievable. Oh, how I miss that bread pudding! Unfortunately, Heather couldn't come, but we were a little bit glad because she graciously took care of our dogs, even after Jake had to have surgery three days before we left on the trip. Thanks Heather!

So, you can see it was a crazy fun summer. I doubt we will repeat one like that for a long time, if ever. I discovered I do like a vacation every once in a while. I had not had a vacation before Hawaii since our honeymoon, which was seven years ago. I think Scott and I are going to make a vacation once a year one of our new priorities.

Vacations are great, especially when you get to spend them with family. Paul and I go on at least one a year and it is always a wonderful time. Thanks for sharing yours with us!!
