Remember the days when your kids were tiny and life was simple? All you had to do was make sure they were fed, changed, and made it through to the next day still breathing.
We have recently come to a fork in the road that is giving me anxiety as a parent. Depending on which direction we choose for Beck, it could significantly change the course of his entire life, and the funny thing is that I'm not speaking in hyperbole....it really is THAT big of a decision.
Do you take the simple road that is nice and flat and easy to travel which will make life easier for everybody; however, Beck would never grow. Or do you go down the road that is full of mountains to climb and rivers to forge and unseen challenges that will make him cry and curse and struggle but, in the long run, will make him stronger?
After much thought, prayer, and deliberation, we decided to change the course that we are presently on and jump over to a new path to face these new challenges. Beck is excited and sees this as a great opportunity to meet new people, learn new things, and have fun at the same time.
It really emphasizes to me that my job as a mother is not necessarily to make life easy for these little boys but to make life a little difficult so that they can become men.
