California Dreamin' (pt. 1)

We went down to California last week to celebrate Owen's big fifth birthday.  We stayed in Dana Point right across the street from 165 stairs (we counted all of them) that led straight to the beach.

Owen was really excited to try and use the force on the waves.

He was not so happy when he discovered the ocean doesn't listen to the force and splashed him.

We went to the Ocean Institute in order to learn all about ocean life.  The boys got to dissect a squid.

Beck loved it!  Owen was not so sure.  Beck commemorated his fallen squid later in the trip by ordering calamari.

The night before Disneyland.  These boys are ready!

At the happiest place on Earth.

They got chosen for Jedi training.

Beck fought Darth Maul and Owen fought Darth Vader.  They were in geek heaven!

Owen and I on Dumbo.

The next day we did California Adventure.  We all wholeheartedly agreed that we liked it better than Disneyland.  Not as crowded, the rides were more fun, and just a better atmosphere.

On our way to California Screamin'.

We almost got hit by Lightning as we were crossing the street.

We bumped into Flick.

Owen's birthday "cake."  We were in the park on his actual birthday and he was just thrilled about it.  He kept telling everyone who would listen that he was five and that he didn't get any presents, just rides.

More pics tomorrow of the beach and other adventures!
